Sometimes I get mail from women who insist that men don't want to commit, so it was interesting to find this bit from a guy who says he can't find a woman to settle down with. He calls himself healthy, attractive, and he says he has a well-paying job.

Interesting. There are plenty of good men and good women "out there." But add in kids, work, looking for work, a more isolated society, a more superficial society (internet dating certainly fosters a "if not this one, next..." mentality) -
it just ain't easy. I think the advice this gentleman was given is all you can provide without more detail. Live your life, be a good dad, be open.
As for the "women don't want a nice guy" thing? Not true.
Maybe this man is simply a victim of bad luck. It happens to the best of us. But something doesn't seem quite right about this letter to me. Most older women I know aren't bothered at all by a man's being divorced, so I wonder about the ages of the women he is dating. With so many nice women out there, how is it that he manages to choose women who are THAT crazy? Also, I've met a number of single men who seem to unwittingly shoot themselves in the foot. One guy knocked 15 YEARS of his age (I wouldn't even care about a few years, but did he think I wouldn't notice 15?), several have used photos that look at least 10 years out of date, some badmouth their exes (one referred to his ex-girlfriends as "psycho-bitches"), and none seemed aware that there was anything wrong with what they were doing. So I wonder if there might not be more to it.
