Come On, Rihanna -- Just Walk Away!

"If a man hits you once, he will hit you again."
-Oprah Winfrey

Oprah's right about this, of course. My husband is right, too. He tells my daughters, "If a man hits you, he doesn't love you. He hates you."

And now Rihanna, a pretty, talented, once-hugely successful pop star, has -- according to reports -- resumed her relationship with the jackass who allegedly bashed her face in.

I'm praying that Rihanna walks away from this guy, that she asks herself where she wants to be five years from now. Maybe she'd like to still be on the top of the charts, making tons of money through endorsement deals, and in a happy relationship with a fun and gentle man who thrills her and doesn't receive lengthy text messages from other women.

It sure beats losing the respect of her fans (not because she was victimized but because she returned to her abuser), losing endorsement deals, and dodging the blows of a so-called boyfriend who thinks he can do anything he damn well pleases.

Well, he's right, he clearly can. Can't fault the guy for seeing things as they are. She's lucky to be with a man so powerful women love him even when he hits them.

You certainly have an interesting view of the world.

Amen. From one who knows. I was married to a wife batterer when I was 22. They don't change. I haven't heard of one who has changed yet. So why would someone who is not married to a batterer stay with them, then actually marry them. For heaven's sake, if you are dating a batterer RUN, DON'T WALK, AS FAST AS YOU CAN,to the nearest exit of that relationship. For God's sake, RUN.

Finally -- I can't imagine why Terry (the previous commenter) would say you have "an interesting view of the world" when your view is very sound. Why should a woman stay and get beat, perhaps killed? And Jokah, the first commenter, to me, is well, just plain sick. Can I say that, LOL? He thinks Rihanna is actually lucky to be with a man who abuses, as in beats, her? I sincerely hope he is jesting, although that is a very sick thing to joke about. What a very, very sad statement it makes of a man today if he really believes it... Can a modern man believe this? Well, I guess he can, he is proving it by saying it...

Anyway, thanks for the great post.
